Manufacturer’s Warranties
Most manufacturers will offer extended warranties. The coverage that is offered through their dealers is typically more expensive than what is available through Security National Warranty. We are also able to provide a wide variety of plans and financing options.
All new vehicles will have a factory warranty usually referred to as the “basic coverage” or the “bumper-to-bumper” warranty. While these warranties will cover most everything on a new car against defects, they will not cover failure due to “wear and tear”.
Some factory warranties may include a powertrain only warranty that is longer than the basic factory warranty. This warranty ONLY covers the engine, transmission, and possibly the drivetrain components. In some cases (Kia and Hyundai), this powertrain warranty is only available to the FIRST OWNER!
Many emissions related items are covered under the Federal Emissions Warranty. They are based on federal laws and are applicable to vehicles in all states. Vehicles are covered by two types of emissions control system warranty, "Emission Defect Warranty" and "Emissions Performance Warranty".
Depending on which state you reside in, the Performance Warranty is for 3 years/50,000 miles. The Defect Warranty is generally consistent with the manufacturer's bumper-to-bumper warranty with certain parts (catalytic converter and electronic emissions controls (PCM)) for up to 8 years/80,000 miles.
Some manufacturer’s warranties cover rust-through perforation on sheet metal for a limited time. Surface corrosion or rust that is from scratches, nicks and dents are not covered.
